Disney Princesses

A huge fan of both fairy tales and anything Disney I have often thought of myself as a Belle if I am any of the Disney princesses. This was largely due to the fact that we both have brown hair and love the color yellow and love to read and I married a beast of a man. ;-)

But, after seeing the movie "Tangled" I have rethought who I am really the most like and come to the conclusion that I fit Snow White or Rapunzel better than Belle or any other princess. Like Snow White, I see the good in everyone and everything to a fault. I trust people I shouldn't and believe everyone is good. I follow my heart and I always do what's right. I'm sweet, gentle, charming, cheerful and pure. I never judge anyone and am very nurturing and kind to others. I'm also very naive and innocent.

As far as Rapunzel goes, when I'm home I'm confidant and determined. Just ask Josh. I like to read and study and learn as much as possible. But when I leave home I become shy and jumpy. I can't decide half the time when I'm out doing something if I'm excited or scared. But my curiosity usually wins. I'm smart, kind, charismatic and adventurous.

Who do you think you are most like of all the Disney characters?

Again a Solstice

Once again, at the age of 27, I find myself entering a new season of my life. Not based on age, but merely location and a new pathway for my life to travel down. I don't know why it seems as though every path I go down ends in a dead end and I keep finding myself turned around and trying a different path in a different direction. I always thought by now I'd have my life pretty well set and figured out but instead I keep getting fresh new beginnings to try when another attempt has failed.

This new path, at least temporarily, has me living in the small town of Ashton, ID with my husband and next door to my husband's parents and living in the same home with an adult male ghost whom I have yet to have the pleasure or horror to meet and hope to never meet. I will hopefully post photos of Ashton and the surrounding area soon if I can get the money and car to buy a new cable for my camera. For now we both get to play the poor, unemployed loser adults. My job to look for work in the surrounding area (an almost impossible task) while keeping house and learning how to cook (another nearly impossible task) and caring for my recently disabled husband. His job, to be patient and wait while his body heals from his recent terrible car accident that I still thank God for him surviving.

As for the cooking adventures, so far I've managed to make crepes, which I can't seem to figure out how to flip so they keep turning out pretty misshapen but still tasty. I've also cooked French Toast but burnt it when I decided to put cinnamon sugar on top while still in the pan cooking. Oh Lord have patience with me. I may never learn how to cook. Poor Josh.

Josh will hopefully finish his social science degree at BYU which will provide us with $1,000 a month for his school fees. I may or may not get a teaching certification depending on whether I can get financial aid to help with that or not. But either way I've applied at local newspapers and will soon apply as a substitute teacher here when the new school year begins soon as well as looking for any other odd jobs that may come up. I will continue learning to cook and learning patience in dealing with a husband who needs constant help and hopefully, if I'm really lucky, horse back riding. In 6 months, we can get fishing and hunting permits here and that'll open up more new fun adventures for me and teach my husband some patience as he once again deals with his non-country wife trying to do country things.

Hopefully this new season of my life will turn out to be my dream come true. If not, we'll take it as it comes. But for now I'm content to be the little house wife and learn patience here in Ashton, ID.

Half Way to Spring

I woke up this morning to birds singing outside, the sun shining and the weather a perfect 75 degrees. After months of miserable freezing cold and wind this weekend offers so much hope for the coming months. We are now halfway through winter. The days are going to start getting longer, and warmer. Bitter cold with no snow at all is probably the worst kind of winter. I can't wait until I get to Nebraska and can enjoy the magic of that first snow fall. I can't wait to feel this warmth and see baby flowers popping up and hear the music of the birds on base. This spring I hope to get used to briefing, not be scared of it anymore. I want to learn to be a better Christian, a better wife and a better airman.

Plus, Valentine's Day is almost here. When I was single I used to HATE this day. It was just another reminder of what I didn't have but wanted. But now I have the gift of Josh in my life. Plus it's a great excuse to have a bunch of the second love of my life, CHOCOLATE! I really think love is magical. It can make you feel special and important and wanted. It can push you to do things and be someone you never would without it.

A Day in the Life of an Airman Student

I wake up to the laughter and shouts of soldiers across the way. I stumble in the darkness, trying not to wake my room mate. Once at my destination, I stare at the brilliant pink clouds in a blue sky, the sunrise behind them. And on my way to learn how to protect my friends, family and everyone of this great country I walk behind a sea of blue, prepared to learn from those who have gone before and prepared to pass their knowledge on to those of us whose time has come to take over and let their wearied souls and bodies rest while our fresh, young excited selves prepare for a new day to protect and serve the next generation who will one day relieve us when we can take no more.

Not About Me

As the time draws closer to shipping out for basic training I find myself starting to feel a little nervous and a little anxious and even a bit excited. I haven't had much time to think about basic training what with working non-stop and trying to keep things at home clean and organized. However, I'm about to have two weeks off in which I'm sure I'll have plenty of time to fret and worry, as is my custom with everything in life.

Mostly, I think, it's a confidence issue. That I have none. Which is a big part of the reason I'm joining. I want to become a more confidant and strong woman. I know I'm out of shape and not physically ready for basic training. But I also know the whole point of basic training is to get you ready and no matter how hard it is they are going to make sure I'm ready before I graduate. But the big thing is I know it's all mental. If I can get in the right mindset I can do it. I have to believe in myself. I have to really really want it. I have to not let their yelling get to me or those horrid thoughts that always sneak in when I'm not careful. You know the ones that say you're a loser. You don't have what it takes. You'll never make it.

But my recruiter told me something the other day that really put things in a different perspective. I've been so focused on me and how I'm going to get through basic. But I'm going to be there with a lot of other girls, most of them young and barely out of their teens, who will also be scared and going through a hard time. And, as I will probably be one of the older girls there, he suggested maybe I do the best I can and also serve as a mentor for the younger girls. Encourage them. Be their cheerleader. Be there if they're having a hard time and help them. I know we'll all have to help each other through basic. And I don't expect to be anywhere near the best there by any means. But if I can just focus outwardly on others and stop focusing on me maybe, as a team, I'll get through it. And it won't be so scary having friends there alongside you the whole way. :-)

Bravery

Bravery is a woman who walks away from a bad relationship even though she still loves him with all her heart.

Bravery is a child who tries to stop his father from hurting his sister.

Bravery is a soldier who pushes through the pain and fear, just hoping the fight will have mattered to somebody.

Bravery is a small cat chasing a large dog.

Bravery is a man who thinks he has nothing to live for making the choice to try just one more day.

We should all try to do one thing every day we're afraid of doing.
